A community with high expectations
Mockingbird Ridge has hosted Betenbough parade homes, and that raises the bar in a way homeowners here notice. The show homes have featured xeriscape front yards with white rock and yucca, custom flower box work, and in one case a putting green in the back yard.
The homes actually sold in the community arrive with the standard package: front yard sod and irrigation included, back yard graded and bare. Which means the gap between what buyers saw at the parade and what they walk out into is wider here than in most communities. Closing that gap is the majority of our work in Mockingbird Ridge.
What people actually ask us for here
Mockingbird Ridge projects skew toward the feature end more than any other community we work in. The requests that come up repeatedly:
Putting greens. Synthetic putting surfaces are genuinely popular in this community. They need a different turf specification, a different base build and correct contouring to roll properly, so it is not simply a matter of laying a smaller area of the same product.
Stamped concrete with pattern and color. Where a plain slab would do elsewhere, homeowners here tend to want a pattern that reads as stone or tile and a stain that works with the brick.
Designed rock work rather than filler rock. Boulder placement, contrasting rock colors, defined bed shapes with proper edging. Rock treated as a design element instead of the thing that covers whatever is left over.
Full backyard builds. Patio, turf, rock, borders and often a pergola, delivered as one project rather than in pieces.
Doing feature work properly
The reason feature work goes wrong is almost always the base. A putting green that was not contoured and compacted correctly will not roll true, and no amount of quality turf fixes that. Stamped concrete poured on a poorly prepared base cracks along the pattern lines, which is exactly where it shows most. Decorative rock beds without proper edging spread into the turf within a season.
On the caliche under Mockingbird Ridge, all of that comes back to excavation depth and compaction. We do that work properly because the visible result depends entirely on it.
